We want to create a healthy environment and spread the word for keeping both our oceans and land healthy. Plastic bags you find at a grocery store check out are ending up in the ocean and disrupting the ecosystem of the oceans. Some animals are mistaking these plastic bags and other trash as food and are consuming them. Multiple local towns that surround the coast of the U.S. have put out bans for plastic bags for all stores.
The Center for Marine Conservation divides their data into debris found, listing the "dirty dozen"-- twelve items found most frequently on our beaches and in the oceans:
1) cigarette butts
2) paper pieces
3) plastic pieces
4) styrofoam
5) glass pieces
6) plastic food bags
7) plastic caps and lids
8) metal beverage cans
9) plastic straws
10) glass beverage bottles
11) plastic beverage bottles
12) styrofoam cups
